I noticed the that the wing window in our 2000 sienna is loose where it opens at the back. The retainer is missing. Can this be fixed, or do I need to buy a whole new window?
What is the vehicle? 2000 Toyota Sienna XLE
Are these power, or manual windows? Power
Diagnosis by phone: This should be pretty easy, I believe you can get the retainer bolt separate from the glass. I’ll have to call the dealership to find out though. Should only take about an hour to fix it.
Final diagnosis: I called the dealer and ordered the parts for the fix. There are three. 1) Quarter window hinge retainer (PN: 62735-95D00). 2) Quarter window screw (PN: 90149-60086). 3) Bushing (PN: 90385-11005). The hinge retainer goes on the outside, the bushing goes between the window and the motor hinge, and the screw holds it all together. Sounds simple, right? Wrong. The hinge connects to the motor arm right where you need to put the screwdriver. There isn’t any give in the motor arm or in the way the motor mounts. The easiest way is to pull the trim off and loosen the motor enough to disconnect the hinge from the motor arm. When putting the hinge back together I’d recommend putting a drop of medium strength thread locker on the screw. That way it won’t come loose again. Put it all together and then attach the hinge back to the motor arm. Then you can tighten the motor back up and put the trim back on and you’re done.
